What fun! The BBC from London came to Sitka to film the herring fest for a documentary they're doing, and stayed at Sharon's Cabin on The Sound! Great group of guys; didn't even complain about being housebound with all our snow!

Curt Steeb and his family, Mali, his wife and his son and daughter came in May 2006. They choose to charter Captain Mike Romine of the "Swell Times" for three days to do whatever they wanted. They fished some, beach combed some and just cruised our bays and inlets, exploring Sitka in their leisure. These photos Captain Mike took of them during their 3 days of touring.

We choose Sitka for its' great fishing and sight-seeing options. We had no experience or hear-say to base our choices upon and hence made all of our decisions based upon internet surfing. From that we found several accommodations to choose from that where vacation rentals; being that Sharon had several options to choose from really helped and we found ourselves well taken care of. To make things even easier Sharon took care of the flight arrangements and hooked us up with her son Mike who was our guide with a boat for three of the days we where there. What was so great about the whole thing was we had an all inclusive point of contact with the liberty to adjust and do our own thing. Being that our kids are eight and five that flexibility was important. Both Sharon and Mike where very flexible and understanding of the hassles children can bring at times. The bottom line is that they are people who put their customers first and try their hardest to facilitate a good time. Fishing is great in Sitka, however, there are also a whole lot of other sights to see. Our family did not want to spend all our time just fishing. Mike was great with that and he took us out a great hike. We also got really luck and saw a Brown Bear at close range from our boat. To top it off we came back with four kings from the fishing that we did do. Working with Sharon and Mike is a great approach to building a custom Sitka vacation. We will surely be back and will work with them on our return trip. Thanks... Curt and Family:)

4/28/05, Sharon, Just a little note to say thanks for arranging our stay in Sitka, we had a great time. The weather was just wonderful and got to see lots of wildlife. We limited out on salmon and halibut, also seen whales and a grizzly. We were very pleased with the Captains Chair, the view was beautiful Thanks again. Tonya | ||||||

Buddy with Halibut. Note cast! Broke it just before coming, but didn't let that stop him! |
Harbor Mountain view! The Harbor Mountain drive is the most missed treasure of Sitka. Only minutes from downtown, it winds about 4 miles up the side of the mountain and offers unbelievable beauty! Regular cars can make it no problem, but no busses as the road is narrow and there are many switchbacks. Bikers do go up, but usually get a ride up and bike down as it is so steep. Once you get to the top there is a short "shelter trail" which leads to a beautiful lookout and at the top there is a beautiful ridge hike that goes all the way down into Sitka. |
